The art of Diplomacy, or how to tell your enemy to go to hell in such a way that they shall look forwards to the journey.
First lesson:
Talk to EVERYONE! Online, chat to your neighbours, their neighbours, their friends, their enemies! EVERYONE! Do not necessarily be their friend, but at least act like it may well be a good idea if they were yours.
Simple as. What to say? What to do? A simple "Hello" should kick off the conversation nicely. Offer to help them out, provide a few resources in exchange, swap maps, ask how's the game is going so far for them?
(A stupid question if it's only just started, ok?) Collect information, collect ALL the information you can get. Share it in the alliance. Share it with the moderators of the Alliance. If someone is good, take note of their user name, and maybe if we are not shit at this, they might to like us. Might even join the alliance.
Be nice to everyone, because even your worst enemy could well become your best friend: Under the right circumstances.
Gerhard Reinhardt is an interesting man to study. Why? He was so good at his job England had to assassinate him to get things rolling in Czechoslovakia in WW 2. Why? he was nice-ish. He was ruthless, efficient, and rewarded people. He talked softly, and carried a big stick, to quote FDR.
So? talk to everybody. Keep contacts, if you like someone, share the name around the alliance to see if they crop up again in other games. With collective knowledge, we can figure out styles of play, find weaknesses, and to above all, make friends who would like to know more. MORE than just the game.
